A Communications Workhorse

I was proud to support soldiers in the field
by Nancy L.

I am the sole surviving member of the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) launch operations team. Between 1982 and 2003, we successfully launched all 14 DSCS satellites from four different launch vehicles. We launched on a TIIC, a T34D, the Space Shuttle and the Atlas II. In 1987, we were scheduled for the first DSCS launch on an Atlas, an assignment that usually lasted for three months. Two years later, we finally launched B14 successfully.
