I went to work at
the Glenn L. Martin Company Martin on December 15, 1959. I was interviewed by
Joe Daleo at the Waterton plant in Colorado, and told him I had just married, grew
up on a farm in Kansas and knew how to use tools well. I was just 20 years old, and Mr. Daleo hired
me on the spot. I'm grateful he did, because my wife and I had arrived in Denver
with only $3 in our pocket.
It was a great
job, and I worked my way up to missile mechanic. I traveled to work on special
projects. I also played on the Martin basketball team for five years, which was a lot
of fun too!
